++ THE BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO DIGI CHARAT
The DiGi Charat anime series was spawned from humble beginnings. It started out with manga artist Koge Donbo's artwork of a small, big eyed catgirl and her dubious sidekick, which was a floating yellow blob. These two soon became the mascots of the popular chain of stores in Japan called Gamers1, which specializes in gaming and anime merchandise. The customers and general public instantly fell in love with the mascots, and from this spawned a merchandising empire that would span everything from CD compilations, to a successful TV series, to a near endless line of paraphenelia. Dejiko and the cast of DiGi Charat are so popular, you may even find them in other manga/anime series -- characters may be cosplaying as Rabi~en~Rose, or maybe own a Dejiko UFO catcher doll. Dejiko's face is probably one of the most recognizable characters ever created, in the world of anime. (Note: if you're looking for more information on the storyline, click here.)
The creator of this series, is the talented artist, Koge Donbo. In addition to the successful TV series, Koge Donbo has also created a DiGi Charat manga. Koge Donbo also created other series, such as the more recent Pita Ten (a rather cute series about a boy and an angel that watches over him), Kamichama Karin, Chicchana Yukitsukai Sugar (aka: Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar), and also does artwork for the popular card series, Aquarian Age. It might also interest some people to know that Koge Donbo is also an avid Harry Potter fan! She has a website full of great HP fanart, which can be found here.
DiGi Charat has been licensed by Synch-Point (which is a part of AnimeGamers.com) and has released the DiGi Charat movie (DiGi Charat: A Trip To the Planet) as well as Leave It To Piyoko! (an OAV series which features Piyoko and the Black Gema Gama Dan). Bandai has licensed the DiGi Charat Nyo series. I haven't heard anything about DiGi Charat Panyo Panyo being licensed, but if it has and I haven't heard of it, you can let me know.
